Research focus/ what you would like to find out from the project.


How teachers and schools use Lesson Study (LS) to improve the learning, teaching, educational outcomes and school experiences of KS3 pupils with learning disabilities and difficulties.

Previous experience


Primary (and secondary) school teaching and leadership in East London and Essex. Leadership of LA EAL team. 20 years work improving classroom learning, teaching and school leadership and effectiveness including: Principal Adviser Standards and Curriculum – Essex, Head of School Improvement and Lifelong Learning – L.B. Redbridge. Two years working with NCSL on school networks (including the LS national pilot). 9 years’ part time educational research at Masters and Doctoral level - most recently focusing on how and what teachers learn in Lesson Study contexts - University of Cambridge.

Recent work


Over 4 years as National Director of the Primary National Strategies supporting schools and LAs to improve pupil learning, teaching, and school leadership with the aim that all pupils succeed and no groups fall behind.
