Lot 2: Hornhill or Home Farm

A Stock-rearing and Corn- Growing Holding
In the parishes of Poltimore, Pinhoe and Broad Clyst. There are 84 acres of meadow and pasture. 108 of arable, 8 acres of Orchard and the land is in a high state of cultivation. Bampfylde Copse, Old Park and other woodlands, together with several cottages, are included with this holding and the whole extends to approximately 254 acres.

The Capital Modern Homestead

Brick-built and slated, comprises the North Range – cow house for 12 head, calf pens and feeding passage, seven cattle boxes, bull’s house, and stable, fitted with two stalls and loose box. South Range – cow house (double) with tying for 24 head and feeding passage. Root and mixing houses with loft over; power house. East Range- Eight cattle boxes, cider house, eight-stall cart-horse stable, gear house, two-stall nag stable, pay office, loft and granary over buildings in the centre. The whole around one large yard with manure pits. The pair of cottages known as ‘Rose Cottages’

Built of cob, plaster and thatched; one containing five rooms, occupied by Mr. James Aldridge, and the other having three rooms occupied by Mr. George Turner.

The Block of Four Cottages called ‘Saunders Cottages’

Brick, cob, rough-cast, thatched and slated; three containing four rooms, each in occupation of Messers. Westcott, Singleton and Garmham, and the other having five rooms occupied by Mr. George Stark; each with suitable outbuildings and gardens. Also the gardens opposite, No. 36 on Plan and Bampfylde Copse and Old Park Wood are held in hand.
