Surveys

For many people archaeology means digging! But modern archaeological methods extend far beyond the excavation of below-ground remains. Excavation is a complex and destructive process, and an alternative to it is ‘non-intrusive’ archaeology, using methods that do not involve breaking the ground surface. The Poltimore Community and Landscape Project has carried out a series of archaeological surveys in the area around the house which you can read about on this webpage.
